Reasonable Accommodations

A scheme of reasonable accommodations, operated by the State Examinations Commission, is currently in place to accommodate candidates with special educational needs in taking their Junior Certificate examinations. In this context, the term special educational needs applies to candidates who have physical/medical and/or specific learning difficulties.

Reasonable accommodations are designed to remove as far as possible the impact of a disability on a candidate’s performance, so that he or she can demonstrate in an examination his or her level of achievement. They are not designed to compensate for a possible lack of achievement arising from a disability.
