Exploring and Thinking

Exploring and Thinking is one of four themes used in Aistear to describe children’s learning and development from birth to six years. It is about children making sense of the things, places and people around them by playing, investigating, questioning, and building ideas about how and why things work the way they do. Through exciting and fun experiences, the Exploring and Thinking theme helps children to

  • make sense of the world around them
  • use different strategies for learning about their world
  • explore ideas and objects using symbols
  • develop positive learning dispositions.

Aistear has lots of ideas and suggestions for how this important learning and development can be supported for babies, toddlers and young children.
